Details: Add a stunning Eastern accent to your decor with this handmade, one-of-a-kind wood lacquer cabinet, featuring the "Si da mei ren," or four famous beauties of ancient China. The women depicted on the front and sides of the cabinet in resplendent Mother of Pearl inlay are actual historical figures who exerted great influence over kings and emperors. Wang Zhaojun (2100 years ago) "made flying geese fall;" Diaochan (1700 years ago), "caused the full moon to hide behind clouds;" Yang Guifei (1200 years ago) "made flowers feel shameful;" and Xi Shi was said to be so beautiful as to "make swimming fish sink." Their symbol, the gorgeous "mudanhua" or tree peony on the top of the cabinet, is also intricately hand-inlaid Mother of Pearl, and is the national flower of China. Red mudanhua and other floral designs are delicately hand-painted on the doors, sides and borders of this stunning piece. The exquisitely rendered scenes which surround the Mother of Pearl figures are hand-painted in vibrant shades of blue, green, red and pink, while the lustrous finish is created with multiple coatings of black lacquer. Custom brass hardware secures both doors in place and teardrop handles provide elegant access to the interior where a shelf creates convenient additional storage space.
